Hello, and welcome to Zen Poems.

As January 2019 approached, I began to recognize the stress and anxieties of everyday life and the toll they were taking on my mental health, relationships, and overall well-being. As someone who has dabbled in various forms of meditation and has a love of poetry and art, I began to consider ways to address the challenges I was facing.

With a lovely book called The Poetry of Zen as my inspiration, I decided to take time every day to do a short mindfulness meditation and write a brief poem or do a short sketch to capture a moment, often focused on the natural world, our relation to the world, and the temporal nature of all things.

Update: November 19, 2019
What began as an ambitious daily project took a back seat to life and obligations, so I’ve transitioned the site into a collection of my writings, which is updated on an irregular basis, as I am struck to write.

My goal is still to provide readers a momentary escape from thinking of the past or future, and to focus on the experience of the moment; taking in the poem or sketch, the feelings that arise, the sensations it produces.

I hope these brief moments allow readers that clarity of moment.

Happy reading,

Clayton
